  1. The first criterion of Holdaway’s beliefs seems to be a common theme among much of the research I’ve read. Choosing books that children enjoy with topics that appeal to their interests sets the stage for more effective reading lessons. This goes right along with my research on reading workshop. I agree with ideas and beliefs of Holdaway. You discussed how he encouraged interactive learning and promoted independence and a sense-of-self within a child, while striving to make learning fun and enjoyable. I think these are all important factors in education. While teaching we often use modeling to prepare student to work independently. Holdaway’s approach toward literacy seems to be an effective one and also reflects much of the other research I’ve looked into regarding teaching reading. Holdaway seems passionate about having a fun but also productive classroom environment. I like how positive Holdaway’s method of teaching reading is for the students as well as the teacher. I enjoyed reading this research and being influenced by it!
